Timestamp Options

Absolute or Relative. Resolutions from 1.68 seconds down to under 1 μSec. Display variable from 0 to 6 decimal places.

About Capture Files

Capture files are in a proprietary (CFA) format; however with ProtocolWorks, you can create text-based capture files and compile to CFA format and de-compile CFA to text.

Data Interfaces

RS-232 or software selectable RS-422/485 using bundled Quatech hardware. Converters may also be used for line protocol choices

Operating Modes

Single & Dual Port Monitoring, source DTE, source DCE

Protocol Decodes

Async PPP, PPP, SLIP, TCP/IP with auto-traverse, Modbus ASCII and Modbus RTU, custom. List of decodes.
With the included VCS ProtocolWorks, you can define and refine custom protocols or modify existing decodes.

Baud Rates

Up to 921.6 Kbps, including user-specified rates, with bundled or supported hardware. Best practice: Buy a ViewComm Async II Bundle - click here.

Bit Order

LSB first (normal) or MSB first (reversed setting)

Flow Control

RTS/CTS or DTR/DSR hardware handshaking or XON/XOFF software flow control. User may define XON and XOFF characters.

Parity

None, Even, Odd, Mark, Space

Word Length

5, 6, 7, or 8 bits

Stop Bits

1, 1 1/2, or 2

Serial Ports

One or two serial ports, depending upon test configuration. Supports COM1 through COM64.

Serial Hardware

Normal 16550 or higher. 16650 works but characters may not be received in proper sequence. We recommend not using 16650. Recommendation: Buy a bundle, not just the software. This gets you 921.6 Kbps performance, PCMCIA or PCI, one or two ports, RS-232 or RS-422/485 with highly reliable drivers developed in conjunction with the board maker (Quatech). The Quatech boards use 16750 UARTs which have 64 byte depth in the FIFOs.

NOTE: ViewComm Async II has a setting whereby you can select FIFO depth as set in Windows or an optimal setting for protocol analysis work (typically the depth would be 1, which assures that no two events can have the same timestamp when you use fine resolution such as sub-microsecond timestamp resolution. This is not required in all cases but is recommended for most test setups.

Protocols Supported

TCP/IP with auto-traverse, IPX, ARP, 502.x, more. See list of protocols decoded.
With VCS ProtocolWorks feature, you can define and refine custom protocols or modify existing decodes.

Interface
